If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, using the Carmichael Library as your starting point:
- Head east on Macaroni Ave, then turn left onto Fair Oaks Blvd. Continue on Fair Oaks around the bend eastward, then turn left onto Sunrise Blvd. Turn left onto Wildridge Dr, then turn right into the business park before you reach Madison Ave. We’re in the farthest east building, at 7840 Madison Ave #185.
- Head west on Macaroni Ave, then turn right onto Walnut Ave. Turn right again onto Winding Way and when it stops winding, turn left onto Garfield Ave. Turn right onto Madison Ave and continue for 3.4 miles. Turn right into the parking lot after you pass the intersection with Primrose Dr, and find us in the building farthest to the east in that lot.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
Carmichael’s story began in 1907 when Charles W. and Mary A. Deterding purchased 425 acres along the scenic north bank of the American River. This land, known as the Deterding Ranch, would eventually become the beloved Ancil Hoffman Park that residents enjoy today. Mary Deterding was deeply involved in the community, serving as the first president of the Carmichael Improvement Club and remaining an active civic leader until her passing in 1940.
The community experienced steady growth throughout the early 20th century, expanding from approximately 300 families in 1927 to nearly 2,000 residents by 1940. In its early days, Carmichael had no central business district. Small businesses dotted the landscape, including the Red & White Store at California and Fair Oaks Boulevard and the Arrowhead grocery store at Fair Oaks Boulevard and Palm Avenue. As the population grew, businesses began clustering around Palm Avenue and Marconi Avenue, establishing the commercial heart of the community.
Telephone service arrived in 1915, and Carmichael’s first bank, The Suburban Bank, opened in the 1940s. The community’s first major shopping complex, Crestview Center, was built in 1963. Today, Carmichael has flourished into a vibrant community of approximately 65,000 residents, maintaining its unique character as a cherished unincorporated suburban area in the greater Sacramento region.
