Why you shouldn’t ignore gum disease

Healthy gums are pinkish and don’t bleed or hurt when pressed with a toothbrush, dental floss, or other tools. Healthy gums are also snugly tucked around teeth. So, if you notice a noticeable gap between teeth and gums or exposed tooth roots, it’s a sign of gum disease.

At the minimum, gum disease causes gum bleeding, redness, swelling, and tenderness. Laser periodontal therapy is a non-surgical treatment for gum disease. Traditionally, treating advanced gum disease involves scalpels, drills,  and sutures, which can be painful and traumatic. Laser therapy uses a tiny beam of focused light to destroy harmful bacteria, dental calculus, and other deposits in the hard-to-access periodontal pockets and creates a situation where the body can heal itself without added bone grafting and the expense of the grafting.
